Abask Dust Buster

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

I absolutely love the Abask handheld vacuum. VERY easy to assemble, and lasts for over 10 minutes without recharging. It comes with different attachments to get in crevices, go on carpeting, use on tile, etc.

I was pleasantly surprised it came with enough attachments so I could stand and vacuum. Most handheld cordless vacuums do not have this option. I was able to vacuum three tile bathroom floors, my large tile laundry room, and my carpeted steps and it did not even start to slow down. It comes with a bag to hold all of the attachments, which I love, and a hook so I can hang it. It’s easy to clean, easy to use, and best of all it has great suction. I HIGHLY recommend this handheld vacuum. I had a few questions for the company, and they were very quick to respond as well. Great customer service.

My Healthy Home with Ology

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser. #WalgreensOlogy

FFR Ology Product Collage Final_

My healthy home includes using products that are safe for even my children to use. As Earth Day draws near, I thought it fitting to try a new brand called Ology, found exclusively at my local Walgreens store, and do a bit of spring cleaning.

FFR Ology Products Final

About Ology

Ology products are free of 10 harmful chemicals (you can look these ingredients up at http://www.ewg.org/ and find out exactly why they are harmful):

Ammonia
Chlorine bleach
DEA (diethanolamine)
TEA (triethanolamine)
Parabens
Phthalates
Formaldehyde
Nonylphenol ethoxylates
Triclosan
SLS/SLES

Plus, Ology contains no dyes or artificial fragrances. This is huge for us as our children have had reactions to some ingredients, especially fragrances.

Their paper products are 100% tree free, strong, biodegradable and septic safe. Made from readily renewable sugar husk that would otherwise be disposed and they use Bamboo which is faster growing than trees, making Ology products better for the environment.

Celebrating Earth Day with Ology

FFR Ology and My Children Collage

My children helped me demonstrate how we used some of Ology products in our home. Starting with the large photo and going clockwise:

JAG is waiting for dinner using Ology bamboo plates. These plates are very sturdy. I really liked them!

JR is cleaning the bathroom with Ology all-purpose cleaner, which is free without harsh solvents or ammonia, and paper towels. The paper towels are surprisingly thick absorbent.

Jr. is helping me put Ology bathroom tissue on the toilet paper roll. This tp is very strong and absorbent.

Blondie is washing her hands with Ology Oatmeal & Honey bar soap. Everyone thought this soap made their hands very soft.

Nook is blowing his nose (yes it’s staged as he didn’t have a runny nose at the time!) with Ology facial tissue.

Ology laundry detergent is gentle on the skin. This is especially important for the delicate skin of my children. I was excited to try this detergent since we have yet to find a chemical free detergent that works for our family.

If you are trying to make your home more healthy, I’d highly recommend giving Ology a try.

MommysClub All In Bundle Review

FFR image for posts

As I mentioned last week in our MommysClub giveaway post, we have been reviewing the MommysClub All In Bundle.

Products in the MommysClub All In Bundle

None of the products smell chemically. They barely have any scent. I love that they are organic and or all natural, toxic-free and hypoallergenic.

MommysClub All In Bundle

Total Body Health with Multivitamin
– To be honest this is weird tasting but I’m not one to shy away from weird tasting health products. Now bad tasting products, I usually won’t buy again. Weird I can get use to. I think only my oldest and I have been taking it.

Total Body Health for Children with Multivitamin
– Only our youngest son likes to drink this. The rest not so much. I’d describe it as liquifying crushed up multivitamins. This would be great for those who cannot swallow pill form vitamins.

Children’s Multivitamin – All the children loved these chewable multivitamins!

Pre-Natal Plus – This is the same as the other liquid vitamins above but for expectant or nursing mamas. I did taste it. The flavor kind of reminded me of another health drink we’ve taken.

Daily Cleansing Foam – I’ve barely used this but it is a no-rinse hand washing solution that hypoallergenic with moisturizer for post-diaper clean up, cuts and burns. This would be nice to keep in the car.

Baby Shampoo – I haven’t even had a chance to fully review this product. I kind of forgot about it amidst all the other products. It smells great though!

Rash & Remedy Skin Relief – Haven’t had any use for this yet. Though Jr. does seem to have some spots I could try it on now that I think about it. It is for rashes and common skin problems.

Perfect Touch Sanitizer – Since we’ve been sick, I’ve been using this sanitizer on taps, door knobs etc. Yep, sick for the first time in two years and we’ve been double slammed in the last month. :(

I cannot honestly say how any of these products work long term because we have only been using them a short time. I can just give you our general thoughts about our initial usage.

New Swiffer Sweep and Trap #NewFromSwiffer

This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Swiffer.

Swiffer Sweep and Trap

Our family of ten creates a lot of dirt. I mean a lot of dirt. It is extremely hard to keep the house clean. Add living on a farm, forget it! We’ve tried many different cleaning products, but ever since we had laminate flooring at our townhouse we’ve used and gone through a lot of Swiffers over the years. When you let children help clean…ah…things happen…lots of things…especially breakage. Now, here at the house we are renting we have a combination of laminate, ceramic tile (cold in winter!) hardwood floors in the bathrooms, kitchen, front entry way and our main farm entrance at the side of the house, which is the reason I was interested in trying the new Swiffer Sweep and Trap.

FFR Swiffer Sweep and Trap_1

I like the new Swiffer Sweep and Trap for light traffic areas and quick mop ups. It is perfect for the bathrooms and our front entry way. It does not get the corners very well without some maneuvering.

FFR Swiffer Sweep and Trap_2

Even though we were using the dry Swiffer sheets for cleaning, my sheet was damp when I took our photos as I had just rinsed it out to reuse for the purpose of this review. As you can see the sheet was picking up dirt…

FFR Swiffer Sweep and Trap_3

And the trap was picking up dirt…the sheets are very easy to put on the Swiffer via the two little hole at the top and two on the bottom of the trap flap. The sheets can be reused too if you wash them but do not put them in the dryer, just hang them to dry and they last longer.

FFR Swiffer Sweep and Trap_4

The trap easily comes off to discard the dirt…

FFR Swiffer Sweep and Trap_5

By the squeeze of the two grey buttons.

The Swiffer Sweep and Trap is light weight and easy to use and just hit the shelves at Walmart today!

Motivation Monday is Back!

It has been a long time since I did a Motivation Monday post. Let’s see when was the last time? Wow, back in August! The purpose of Motivation Mondays was originally explained here, which was to help me get motivated and get more done. Since that time I have become more busy but still need motivation to stay on track towards my goals.

I have a lot to do now that the new year is here. It’s easy to get overwhelmed if I think too much about it. I have to take one thing at a time and do things one day at a time.

FFR Motivation Monday 010614

Here’s what I *think* I am looking at for this week and possibly the rest of the month with slight variations:

– Teaching my five year old to read. Hubby is home so he’s helping.
– Getting the children back on track for their school work. It’s always tough after a break. Gotta shake off the lazies.
– Cleaning
– Organizing and reorganizing my office, again! Getting ready for tax time….again.
– We need to make some farm decisions – how many chicks to buy, will we buy pullets from the hatchery in March, what seeds do we need, how many plug trays will we plant or buy to get our veggies started, will we take on an intern and worker shares this year? Are we raising turkeys, if so, how many? Will we add any other farm ventures? Will we do any farmers markets? How will we meet our goals?
– Apply to more VA jobs. My goal is to take on one client for 10 hours per week or two clients for 5 hours each per week. This will help us in replacing my husband’s income, just in case he cannot find a job.

What about you? Do you have a list of to-dos or goals for the week?

Fall Clean Up

Now that our vegetable CSA is over and summer has come to an end. It’s time for fall clean up. I don’t know about your fall clean up list, but ours seems to keep growing and I fear we will not get everything done on it.

FFR Red Maple_

Here’s what on it so far and there’s only a little over a month left of fall:

1. Plant 15 lbs of garlic.

2. Clean up garden beds.

3. Till.

4. General pick up of garbage, etc.

5. Go to a local organic berry farm to dig up asparagus crowns they are giving away so we can add to our own little patch.

6. We have a 1/4 acre that we have to weed because we allowed it to become a patch of tall overgrown ugliness. Our intention was to plant root crops there but we never got to it. Now it’s a project and a half no one wants to touch. :(

7. Clean out chicken coops.

8. Store unused coops for winter.

LoonyAcres Mini Greenhouse 2

9. Possibly make one more small hoop house to grow veggies in over the winter.

10. Barn clean up. This will be ongoing as it was originally a mess when we started renting it in February.

11. Move Miss Moo to new pasture. This is an ongoing task.

Plus, whatever other projects we decide we need to accomplish….and this is just outside projects. Don’t even get me started on what needs to be done INside. Sigh.

So tell me, do you have a lot of fall clean up to do?

Happy Halloween with Crest and Oral B

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Screen-Shot-2013-10-22-at-10.39.42-AM-1024x357

Imagine a Halloween without sweet treats – Crest and Oral B asked my young trick-or-treaters to try some healthy alternatives to traditional Halloween candy and the results were…scary.

Why don’t you try it ~ Dig into Halloween candy and keep your teeth cavity-free with Crest toothpastes and Oral-B toothbrushes. Plus, visit your dentist to keep away the scariest monster of them all: tooth decay. That means more candy and whiter fangs for all!

tooth_pumpkin_candy

Halloween is a fun time in our house… going door-to-door trick or treating and then devouring candy! I always have my children brush and brush some more after ravenously eating those sweet treats! It can be disheartening to see chocolate smiles… BUT I know that Crest and Oral B will be there to make things sparkly again!  Fortunately my children enjoy their brushing adventures! They love the Crest for Kids toothpaste (so glad this came out) with its sparkling fun!

crest

Before I found Crest for Kids I was always fighting with the children to brush… now because of the good flavor and sparkle fun brushing is no longer a chore for mom! AND  did I mention the cool Oral B flossers???

products-floss-stagesflossersThey are an awesome way to get kids to floss, a must try! …This being said NOW on Halloween my children will brush away the sugar bugs from all the candy and I can sleep easier knowing that Crest and Oral B have helped my children continue their good oral hygiene.

Make sure to check out the CREST COUPON site so you can SAVE on your future Crest purchases!

Recipes Using Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar #HeinzVinegar

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Heinz Vinegar. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and as a thank you for participating.”

We like using vinegar for many things around our home, not just for cooking but also for cleaning. Did you know if you sprinkle baking soda and then pour vinegar over it and scrub it whitens and cleans like a chemical cleaner but without all the harmful fumes or potential side affects? We use apple cider vinegar for our horse and cows intestinal needs (the nice way of writing about it since I will be talking food in a few minutes!)

Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar

We recently tried a couple of different varieties of Heinz® Vinegar: Heinz® Apple Cider Vinegar and Heinz® Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. Pretty similar products except the unfiltered apple cider vinegar is cloudy and thicker. Both have similar tastes and results in the recipes we used them in, in my opinion. I had never tried either of these products before, just Heinz® Distilled White Vinegar. They also have a few other varieties as well.

Heinz® describes their apple cider vinegar products in this way:

Bottled at the peak of freshness, Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar begins with fine quality apples and crystal clear water to deliver a mellow flavor ideal for brightening up salads, flavoring a main dish, pickling or topping off a cool beverage. For vinegar in its most natural and wholesome form, , check out Heinz Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. It retains the “mother” of the vinegar – a compound created naturally during vinegar’s fermentation process, and is best used in cooking to bring out refreshing flavors, as well as other unique uses.

Heinz® Apple Cider Vinegar 1

Badly Burned Pot Cleaned Up Using Vinegar

Heinz Vinegar Cleaning Test-edit

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Sweet and Sour Meatballs-edit

adapted from Ruby Hatfield’s recipe in one of the Cooking for Miracles cookbooks I purchased as a teenager to support the children’s hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Serves 4-6

Meatballs

1 lb ground beef
1 egg (beaten)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soy sauce or Bragg’s Liquid Aminos
1 small onion (small or fine)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1-2 tablespoon ground sage

Mix all ingredients together and form into balls. Brown, pour off any excess fat.

Sweet and Sour Sauce

1 cup water
1/3 cup cane sugar
3 tablespoons Heinz® Apple Cider Vinegar or Heinz® Distilled White Vinegar, whatever you have on hand.
1 can pineapple chunks with juice included
1 tablespoon soya sauce or Bragg’s Liquid Amino
3 tablespoons ketchup

Add together. Simmer for 30 minutes. Thicken with 2 tablespoons cornstarch, mixed in 1/4 cup cold water. I often double this for more sauce. Well, now we probably triple or quadruple!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs and Rice-edit

We serve it with rice and veggies or a salad.

Berry Vinaigrette

from Heinz Website

Apple Cider Vinegrette 1
