Review of Pediped Footwear

Pediped Shoes Feb. 2010

Last month I bought a pair of Pediped Originals – Zach Black/Red – for our youngest son. They were having a Make-A-Wish Promotion that enabled shoppers the opportunity to purchase shoes, with half of that purchase price going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I thought this was a wonderful opportunity to try a product that I had heard and read a lot about, as well as support a charity that helps terminally ill children at the same time. I like it when I can do that.

My son loves these shoes! This is the first pair of shoes he has kept on since he started wearing footwear! Occasionally he will take them off in the van when we are going out, but once we are out, he keeps them on very well. I am so impressed that I want to buy another pair for him in the next size with his birthday money!

They are well made, soft soled with velcro closures.

These are one of the cheaper pairs of Pediped shoes, priced at $23.00. So I basically bought my son’s shoes for $11.50 and gave $11.50 to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

I even bought my daughter sandals for the summer, but they just fit her so I had to send them back for a larger size in order for them to fit her once the warmer weather arrives. The new size has not arrived yet. I’ll probably wait to do a review of those in the summer.

Morning Sickness

This pregnancy has been different. I know, each pregnancy is different anyway and I should know that more than the average woman, having been pregnant 13 times now. But the thing is, why does it catch you off guard? Why does it throw a wrench in my daily routine?

I had an extremely busy weekend last weekend and paid for it this week. I was thankful that I felt relatively good all weekend with the errands, shopping, birthday meal preparations, church and visiting my mother-in-law. This week though, I have felt pretty rotten, nauseated, tired and suffering from back pain – I think we need a new mattress, at least I am hoping that’s what is causing this discomfort and not something amiss with baby!

That’s not to complain, but to share that I haven’t been able to do everything that I want to do. I’ve just felt like zoning, so I have been watching movies, sleeping and doing the bare necessities. I miss my older girls a lot while they help my mother-in-law, but this is helping my younger crew learn more responsibility without having to rely on their big sisters and mom so much. I just hope they don’t hate me when they grow up! The worries of a mother, eh?

Book Review – Miracle in Sumatra

I received this book for free in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of Miracle in Sumatra.

MiracleInSumatra

Miracle in Sumatra is a children’s storybook written by Jeanne McNaney. This is Ms. McNaney’s second children’s book. Both books have been written in a way that will help parents and teachers educate children about wildlife conservation and endangered species preservation. A portion of the sales from her books also goes to support each of these causes.

This cute story is about a young orangutan named Gus who meets a young human girl. It is a story that teaches children what can happen when man gets greedy and forgets to think about what is best for animals and the environment. Gus is called upon to help his parents and the rest of his species with the help of his new human friend. With the encouragement from his guardian angel, he exhibits bravery and belief in himself in a dangerous situation that saves the whole community of orangutans and challenges the views of human trappers. Other virtues “Gutsey Gus” exhibit are compassion, forgiveness, love and strength.

Our six younger children said that they liked this book. They thought it was “good”, “interesting” and “cute”. It is definitely written in such a way to appeal to the younger audience and their imagination.

Miracle in Sumatra is available at:
Amazon.com
BarnesAndNoble.com
Borders.com
Buy.com

This book is a hardcover and retails for $16.95.

Short Capelet from Mayu

I did receive this product in exchange for work I did for someone.

At the risk of being very repetitive, I am most delighted with my Mayu alpaca products! I couldn’t believe the softness of alpaca in a finished product. The designs and look of Mayu’s products really catch your eye and the attention of others when wearing them or showing them to others. My last product from Mayu is a short eggplant purple capelet, which has replaced my old beat up sweater!

My capelet is the eyelet version with a hoodie, Mayu also has the two-colored hooded capelet, a fringed halfie, eyelet halfie, a long eyelet hoodie, as well as a long hoodie. My capelet has two knitted ties that close the front of the capelet. I think it is a great product! It has added warmth with my winter jacket, I can also put it on like a sweater and it takes the chill away. I think it will even be very practical for discreet nursing. The short capelets retail for $139.00 and the long hoodies retail for $179.00.

I haven’t had a chance to take pictures of my capelet, so for now I am going to post Mayu’s photos. When my older daughters are home I will get photos, although I may try with my younger girls in the meantime.

Flowered Hat from Mayu

I did receive this product in exchange for work I did for someone.

I have loved the look of this flowered hat from Mayu ever since I saw it on their model. It is another handmade, hand-knit alpaca product. It comes in several colors: charcoal gray, chocolate brown, kelly green, red, eggplant purple and orange. I received a kelly green one. It is just as soft as the throw and just as beautiful in design. However, it was too small for my head! 🙁 I was very disappointed. For some reason, it doesn’t quite cover my ears. It fits my all my children pretty well, especially the ones with less hair. If you look at the model pictures on Mayu’s website, the one of her wearing the eggplant purple looks smaller than the photo of her in the cream colored one. It is supposed to be a one size fits all, but if you have a lot of hair or a big head (yikes!) then you may want to ask them to custom make your hat or just order one of their slouch hats. These hats and the slouch ones retail for $59.00. Again, they are hand-knit by Peruvian artisans in the Andes Mountains and the sale of these products goes towards helping support the women who make them. Please visit www.shopmayu.com for more information.

Mayu Alpaca Throw

I received a few alpaca items in exchange for some work I did for someone. Pretty nice stuff! So the upcoming three posts will be about three hand-knit alpaca products that came from the online shop Mayu.

The first item is an alpaca throw. The photos on the website do not do it justice even though they are nice photos. I don’t think my photos do it justice either! Once I opened the box that the throw came in and touched it, I couldn’t believe how soft it felt! It is beautifully made and makes me wish I could knit with such expertise, seriously! My grandmother knitted and I regret not taking up the art of knitting when she was alive. I am between a beginner and intermediate, but this throw is definitely made with expert skills.

Mayu Alpaca Throw

I have a cream colored throw – they have it in chocolate brown, beige and charcoal, as well – and noticed that it is picking up dark colored lint from my “fuzzy” sheets, but that is the only negative thing I have to say about it, besides the fact that it only comes in a twin size! I’d love to have a queen size, but can only imagine what Mayu would have to charge for the finished product after all of their artisans’ hard work! As it is, this throw retails for $249.00.

Editor’s note: I found out from Mayu that they can make a queen size, so a custom order is available upon request.

Mayu Alpaca Throw

This alpaca throw is very warm. I have warmed up quickly after wrapping it around me or adding it over my comforter; it really takes the chill away. I honestly love it!

Alpaca is an eco friendly resource and all of Mayu’s products are considered eco friendly. All of their products are handmade by artisans living in the Andes mountains of Peru. The sale of each item goes to help support the women who made them. For more information about Mayu and this throw, please visit www.shopmayu.com

Oh Yeah! Rebelle Friendship Bags

I was sent a complimentary Friendship Bag by Daisy Cook LLC in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of Victorian Style Pink Friendship Bag.

003

My two youngest daughters were very excited to receive the box containing a Rebelle Friendship Bag; even our oldest daughter, at her age, was interested in the Friendship Bags, but I think that she will outgrow it faster than the two younger ones will. So that’s why I opted that the younger girls would be my review assistants with this product.

Ms. Cook sent us a Victorian Style Pink Friendship bag, just in time for Valentine’s Day! It is a pretty pink, with pink hearts, silver rhinestones and a pink-purple-turqouise-gold paisley background.

005

The neat and interesting thing about a Friendship bag is the fact that it is a two-in-one bag. It is actually two small purses that zip together and can be detached and shared! I didn’t realize that it did this before I received the bag. I like this feature for my girls because my older daughter can zip her 3-year-old’s purse to hers when we go out and keep it from getting lost!

006

This feature is unique in that all of the Friendship bags will mix-n-match, so girlfriends/sisters can trade, share and wear their bags together.

Yet another surprise was a little card inside the bags saying that the recipient has a secret code that can be entered online. It took us a little time to figure out where the secret code was because at first I thought it was on the card and you had to scratch it off to see the secret number. When that didn’t work, my daughter discovered a pink tag sewn inside the bag that says, “Cut open to reveal your secret code”. Okay, just imagine a nine-year-old and a three-year-old on a secret mission to find their code. They were really into this! I cut the code tag out to eliminate any accidents that might result in little hands cutting their purses and inside the tag was a piece of paper with their code. Then they were eager to go online to see what happened when they entered their codes!

Rebelle Girls with Friendship Bags

www.FriendshipBags.com

We visited www.FriendshipBags.com and clicked to sign up where you have to enter your name (I didn’t use my daughters’ real names!), email address, password, and if they are under 12, then a parent’s email address is required. And lastly, their secret codes!

Once their secret codes were entered, they were then told they could enter the Design Studio! They have had so much fun designing outfits for the Rebelle Girlz. The girls can even create their own patterns, which I think is going to be more interesting to my two older girls than the younger girls at this point. Through the design site, the girls are even able to email their creations to the owner, Daisy Cook, for consideration for future ideas etc. for Rebelle! Oh yeah, you go girls!

I am very impressed and like the fact that they can learn and create through the website. My nine-year-old, “Giggles”, really liked the rocky music that introduces the website.

I asked my girls what they would rate their new purses, 10 being the best and 0 being the yuckiest and they gave them a 10! (“Blondie”, my three-year-old, had a little help from her sister! 😉 )

You may visit www.FriendshipBags.com for more information and choices of bags. By the way, I forgot to mention that the Friendship Bags retail for $40.00. That’s only $20.00/gift if you have two girls or a daughter and her friend. Pricey, but not too bad when you think of it like that.

Here’s a couple of videos, one of the secret code and one of the Design Studio:

Kolcraft Jeep Trek Easy Travel Playard Giveaway!

Dee over at Two of a Kind, Working on a Full House is hosting a Kolcraft Jeep Trek Easy Travel Playard Giveaway! It is a pretty snazzy playard. Wait until you see the photos! And we are in dire need of a new one because ours finally bit the dust and will have to be replaced before August. We are surviving without one for now since Noah learned how to climb out of our old playard and just couldn’t be contained anymore. It is just as easy to lay him in our bed and have a nap – no fear of him falling out on his head while trying to climb out!

Jeep Trek Easy Travel Playard

Then take a look at the little storage area – I really like that feature since we are running out of space ever so slowly. It kind of scares me to add another little person and his or her belongings to our house!

Jeep Trek Easy Travel Playard Storage

And finally when it is all folded up, it has a pull handle and wheels! Gotta love it!

Diapers Arrived on Time

The diapers I ordered the other day from Diaper.com arrived in two different shipments, just as my order confirmation indicated. One box with the larger sized diapers arrived yesterday and the second box with the four packages of smaller size (anticipating all those newborn diaper needs!), along with my travel pack of wipes. I decided to give the Earth’s Best brand a try since they were only 59 cents more than the Pampers wipes.

016

I no longer like Pampers wipes since they changed their formula several years ago to what I have found to be a thinner, disgusting and useless wipe.  I was terribly disappointed at the time since I had used Pampers since our oldest was born! My husband mistakenly bought some Pampers wipes recently and has learned from that mistake! We find we have to use more because they are not as thick, nor are they as wet, plus they dry out that much faster than their competitor, Huggies wipes. Yes, Huggies is our preferred brand of wipes now.

I am a cloth diaper user, but do use disposables for extended outings, trips and when we happen to forget to do a diaper load when the clean supply is low! We really do not stick with one brand of disposable diapers, though; usually we purchase whatever we can get for the best price. I think there have only been one or two off brands that we have not liked, due to the gel- like residue its left on baby bottoms. I cannot think of the brands’ names at the moment…sorry!

I’ll let you know how we like Earth’s Best wipes, probably later next week.
