2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Review

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Aside from my extreme excitement of being offered the opportunity to do a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport review – a brand new car – for a week (less than 5000 miles were on it when it arrived at our home), I love these things about the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport:

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Backend

  • Love the push button start
  • Fast key entry system
  • Love the sporty look and color – Laguna Blue

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Exterior

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Steering Wheel

  • Love the tilting feature of the headlights
  • Love the smooth ride
  • Better gas mileage than most SUVs
  • 4WD/AWD came in handy when we had lots of ice
  • The interior light was located at the front between the two visors and not in the middle of the ceiling so I didn’t have to stretch back my arm, which I have to do when I drive my mother-in-law’s car

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Interior Light

  • Panoramic sunroof!

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Sunroof
My husband loved:

    • Nice, bright headlights, cool dial to adjust headlights (they moved down)

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Headlights

    • Running lights on the sunroof was a neat feature, didn’t offer much lighting just a cool affect

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Radio

    • Satellite radio – I avoided it but my husband liked being able to listen to CNBC and buisness news in real time listen to the programs

    • Nice stereo system! Hidden CD Player…see video above

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Sound System

  • Heated front seats! I liked the back heat especially

This little car had a decent amount of trunk space considering its size. I was pleasantly surprised and was even able to transport 4 bags of horse feed, as well as 5 bags of chicken feed. Not all in one trip, though I probably could have, it just happened on two different shopping excursions.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Trunk

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Gear Shift

Funny story about my first day driving the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport….I’ve been driving since I was basically 16 and know all about a gear shift, right? Well, the first time I drove the Mistubishi Outlander Sport I drove in second gear! In the picture above you’ll see how the gear shift is jagged rather than straight. It messed with my head royally. lol! I wasn’t even looking at the dashboard to see the P, D, R, N, 1 or 2. My daughter and I were wondering why on earth the car was so loud. Yes, I was completely oblivious that first day. I finally clued into the fact that I had the gear shift in second gear and laughed. Gave my husband a laugh too. Certainly a blonde moment. ;)

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Back Seat

Additional Specs for the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

    • Comes in six fancy colors: Quick Silver, Mercury Gray, White Pearl, Laguna Blue (my favorite), Rally Red and Labrador Black.
    • 26 MPG average fuel economy. 24 MPG city. 29 MPG highway. $1350 savings in fuel costs over 5 years, compared to the average new vehicle. Or $270/year.
    • Has a 7/10 Fuel Economy & Greenhouse Gas Rating. Only a 5/10 Smog Rating.
    • It has an 4 star government safety rating.
    • It has a 60/40 split fold down back seat, with a very easy to push button.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Fold Down Seats 1

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Fold Down Seats 2

    • A nice two cup console in front and back seats.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Console

    • Rear camera for backing up, which my nine year old son loved making faces in and asking me if I could see him!

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Rear Camera

  • Large sunroof with running lights, very cool at night.
  • Heated sideview mirrors, which I completely missed using.
  • Handsfree link system with USB port, which I didn’t use this time around.
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror, which is another feature I completely neglected to use!
  • Anti-theft alarm system, which actually went off on my son once!
  • Active Stability control

Plus a whole slew of options and features that will be listed here:
www.mitsubishicars.com

I loved driving this little car. That’s the thing, it is little for our family as it only seats five. We’d need two of them to seat all of us! ;)

Editor’s note: I originally called this vehicle a hybrid. It is not. Chock it up to another blonde moment on my part.

I was loaned the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport car for a week with the agreement to feature of it on my blog, this post is done to fulfill that agreement. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Baby Gourmet…mmm good!

Baby Gourmet is a healthy, organic, and nutritious food for your baby.  They come in three different stages.  Stage 1 is for babies 6 months and older, stage 2 is for babies 7 months and older, and stage 3 is for babies 8 months and older.  All of their foods are organic, contain no thickeners or fillers, contain no added sugar or salt, and are kosher.  Each stage of foods has three different flavors to choose from, for a total of nine different products.

My favorite feature of this product is their packaging. It’s in a resealable pouch that can be served warm or cold.  It does not require any spoon, just squeeze and feed!  It is so convenient to throw in my diaper bag when I know I’m going to be out, and I have a meal already prepared and ready. I can’t wait to bring them with when we go for long car rides.  Rather than pulling over to feed my baby, or trying to feed her with a spoon in the car, I can just feed her the pouch while we are on the move.

I cannot say enough positive things about this product. They taste fantastic (Tropical Banana Bliss was the favorite in our house), are extremely convenient, and are a healthy choice for babies and even toddlers on the go. Here’s their website for more information and to find out where you can buy them:

Prevent Getting Lost With Navigation Apps

When traveling do you use GPS or do you prevent getting lost with any navigation apps? Leave me a comment if you do!

Last Saturday I started an early morning paper route – paid opps and business has been rather slow this month so I needed a back up plan that still allowed me to be at home with my children. The glories of being self-employed…work isn’t always steady or consistent. A paper route allows me to work while my family sleeps. In the spring, if not before, I plan to invite my older girls to help me so we can spend extra time together. If that goes well, then maybe the little ones can join me, but I’d really hate to get them up that early!

An early morning paper route means I have been getting up at 2:22am and am usually out the door by 2:40-2:45am to head to the warehouse to bag the Chicago Tribune, Sun Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and New York Times. Grab my route papers and be on my way. It’s very easy work. It’s finding the houses and maneuvering my town’s streets in the dark that is taking longer to get use to! I’ll admit I am not much of a navigator and while I have improved, you all know that I have used my human GPS – my travel savvy husband – many times in the past for help getting around town.

Multiple times I have got turned around or taken the wrong way as I drive my route. I have even called Mr. D, the man who’s in charge of routes, for help finding what I call “mystery” houses, the ones with no numbers, yet we are suppose to know where they are! Thankfully, Mr. D trains new drivers with half their route first so I have had the same half all week, however, there are a few new/different houses every day. This weekend he’ll probably introduce the second half, which will be interesting as the weekend routes are bigger and longer.

The past couple of days I have been using Verizon’s Navigator App to help me drive my paper route more efficiently. It has really helped, especially the voice directions on VZ Navigator. The Verizon Navigator voice guidance feature uses traffic lights and number of streets instead of feet or meters, to provide a safer driving experience.

About VZ Navigator

As I stated, VZ Navigator is an GPS or navigation app you can download to your cell phone. Verizon is offering a FREE 30-day trial, after the 30-day trial it costs $2/month or you can pay as you use for a fee of 99 cents per day (Yikes!). According to your data package you may be billed for data usage per megabyte basis.

The app also offers roadside assistance service, show traffic, a follow me option, plan a trip view, a place to store favorites, contacts, recent searches, find a place, movie or events and you can even input your preferences.

This app offers 2D, 3D, Dashboard and List view, plus so much more. From detours to weather, so far it appears to be a full service app from my initial use of it.

VZ Navigator Review

For the most part I am very hesitant to use location services and rarely have that feature turned on, but for the purpose of this post and review I turned it on. The thing I like the most is the voice guidance, which saves me from having to look down so much at the list of directions or the moving pin on the map (that’s what Google Maps provides).

Another thing I like is the convenience of it being on my phone without having to buy another device.

The thing I don’t like is the monthly charge at the end of the 30-day trial. I could buy a GPS system, you know? Time will tell on how much I use it and how attached I get to it. Ha! It’ll probably save me time on my paper route though!

Visit iTunes learn more about the VZ Navigator App.

Benefits of Shelf Safe Milk

Do you remember Y2K? Do you remember people stock piling food and supplies in the event of a major power outage or shortage of food? I have no idea how the Y2K thing escalated to such proportions but it did. In some circles it was somewhat of a minor panic. And if I remember correctly I think we even stocked up on a few necessary items but nothing out of control like some folks are rumored to have done. Dry milk was one of those items since milk is not something that is easy to store or stock up on unless you have lots of refrigeration space. That’s when shelf safe milk comes in handy.

What is Shelf Safe Milk?

Think of the power outages that have occurred during hurricanes or strong rain storms. Last year when we first moved in we experienced a number of power failures during thunder and lightening storms. We were always concerned about losing the food in our freezer and refrigerator. Granted the issue was probably due to neighboring trees over hanging on the power lines, which they have since trimmed, but still it would have been nice to have stock piled shelf safe milk then.

As noted in the video above, shelf safe milk is milk that has been ultra pasteurized, processed and packaged in a container that needs no refrigeration, at least until it is opened, and is actually found on the shelf of your grocery store. Who would have thought, right?

It comes in several different brands, including Organic Valley. We have been to an Organic Valley farm and know the farmer through our regional farmer’s group.

The Benefits of Shelf Safe Milk

There are benefits of shelf safe milk. Here are a few I come up with:

  • No fear of it souring before you open it. (It does need to be refrigerated upon opening)
  • Easy to travel containers.
  • The containers do not disintegrate in the cooler – bonus!
  • A great way to have milk anywhere and anytime.
  • Much easier way to stock up on milk and requires less refrigerator space.

Kia Optima Hybrid #Brandcation #PigeonForge

Before Brandcation Blog Cabin I gave you a sneak peek of the Kia Optima Hybrid, now I want to share my thoughts of the car and how it did on our drive to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Performance and Gas Mileage

The car runs great. It has great pick up speed and awesome gas mileage. We averaged about 35 mpg on the highways and only 19 mpg in Pigeon Forge because we were going up and down a mountain every day so that is understandable. My husband loved the gas mileage aspect of the hybrid (he drove it to work one day) and is definitely interested in getting one (this one or another hybrid)…some day, but not unless we can find a used one.

Happy Man.

This photo is the specs I was given about the fuel economy of the Kia Optima Hybrid:

Oh and it handled really well in the rain. I drove into rain on my way to Paula’s.
Interior

The interior featured many, if not most of the options available for the 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid, inlcuding “Bernice”, Kim from What’s that Smell nicknamed the GPS! Paula (Frosted Fingers) knew how to work the GPS the best since she has used one before. It also had a hands free way to use your cell phone, a built in car charger for your cell phone, plus two additional charge outlets. Perfect for three traveling bloggers!

Lots of cool features on the steering wheel.

Push button start took some getting use to but it was very cool to use.

Front seats with a console in the middle and two built-in cup holders.

Dome lights and sunroof control, of which there were two…gotta see if Kim got any pictures of the sun roofs!

Compass and garage door control located on the rear view mirror.

Stereo, GPS (below too) and gear shift.

Dashboard with tripometer, fuel economy, temperature, etc.

It was a comfortable ride in front and in back. The front seats had heat and cold controls, as well as “prime” position control at least for the driver’s seat.

Exterior

It’s a slick looking car inside and out.

Compliments of Kim

Storage Space

We were surprised with how much trunk storage space we had for the luggage of three women. Granted we did use half the back seat too but that’s beside the point. ;) I think for a family of 4 or 5 it would be kind of tight to travel in unless everyone packed lightly.

Personally I really liked the Kia Optima Hybrid car. It was better than I expected. For some reason when I have heard or thought of Kia in the past it was in a negative way. This car has completely changed both my husband’s and my opinion of Kia.

Two bloggers and I were loaned the KIA Optima Hybrid car with the agreement to feature of it on our blogs after Brandcation, this post is done to fulfill that agreement. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Lumberjack Feud #Brandcation #PigeonForge

Courtesy of Brandy at Not So Average Mama and Loud Mouth Photography.

Lumberjack Feud was another one of the highlights of Brandcation Blog Cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I am not sure what you think of when you hear Lumberjack Feud, but it is all about a feud between lumberjacks. And no, it isn’t geared towards men. This is a family-friendly show.

History of Lumberjack Feud

According to Pigeon Forge history one of our fair presidents decided to take over land in Pigeon Ford, the thing is it belonged to lumberjacks. Yes, this is true. The feud part not so much. Lumberjack Feud has magnified the so called feud between two families into a dinner show, much like Dolly’s Dixie Stampede in the way it is set up with dinner and a show, but the similarities stop there.

The CEO of Lumberjack Feud is a third or fourth generation lumberjack, which is pretty neat.

Lumberjack Show

During the show two lumberjack families, the McGraws and Dawsons are feuding, nah they weren’t fist fighting or anything but they were competing in lots of different lumberjack activities. The families’ dogs even competed! It is highly entertaining and fun to watch.

Again at this dinner show the audience are participants and divided into sides to cheer on the McGraw and the Dawson families. We bloggers hooted, hollered and “Yo-ho’d”…yep, I just divulged a show “secret”.

There was also a couple other characters who tickled our funny bones, Camper Bob and a certain young “lady”.

Lumberjack Dinner

The Lumberjack dinner was delicious. It included as stated on their website since I am forgetting everything 8 days post-Brandcation:

Mouthwatering BBQ ribs, a savory Mesquite baked chicken breast, creamy baked Macaroni ‘N Cheese, home-style baked beans, and a piping hot dinner roll. Top off this fantastic meal with our all-American, homemade, strawberry shortcake for dessert!

Choose your favorite beverage: Pepsi products, Iced Tea, or Coffee. FREE refills!

Lumberjack Shop

Lumberjack Feud has an awesome gift shop of lots of unique, fun and useful gifts.

I thought this was hilarious!

A lumberjack sling shot.

These were adorable…and I think a certain blogger bought herself some, right Toni? ;)

I loved the old photos of lumberjacks that adorned the walls and hallways of the impressive Lumberjack Feud building. I wish I had taken more time to read more of the history displayed there. Next time…

Lumberjack Feud is another great place to visit. I know I’ve said it a lot in the last week, but this is another place I want to take my family to when we plan a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennesse.

Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge #Brandcation #PigeonForge

Wow. That’s how I’d describe the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge. It surprised me how sobering it was to walk through the museum. I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting it considering the Titanic was a tragic event but most museums I have visited only had certain exhibits sharing an devastating event in history briefly and intermixed with more fun and informative facts of joyful times. Know what I mean?

The museum was set up so visitors lined up to board the Titanic. Boarding passes and hand held audio devices are handed to each passenger. The unique thing about how this is done is passengers are given a boarding pass with the name of a real passenger who traveled on the Titanic. The boarding pass tells the story of the passenger. At the end of the “voyage” visitors find out if they survived their journey.

The name on my boarding pass? Emily R. and I cannot seem to find my boarding pass to give you more information. :( It’s not the first time I misplaced it either. I know one of my daughters got to read it. The whole purpose behind the boarding passes is for us to leave the museum and share our passenger’s story with others, especially our children, so they are not forgotten. The last Titanic survivor has died and only their offspring are left to carry on their legacy. By visiting the museum we help keep that legacy alive.

Inside the Titanic Museum

First class stateroom.

The infamous staircase.

The bridge.

On the deck there was a wall of ice we could touch and “troughs” of water along the edge of the deck. The same water was the same temperature the passengers of the Titanic would have experience upon being submerged into it.

Speaking of water, in the third class section of the Titanic Museum there was a stair well going up featuring water pouring down into the third class section.

The Memorial wall.

The Titanic Crew

And the crew certainly out did themselves during our visit to the museum. We were given VIP treatment that day. They served us a scrumptiously delicious breakfast buffet that everyone raved about.

The crew was funny, knowledgeable and very courteous.

We were even privileged to meet Mary Kellogg Joslyn, co-owner of the museum with her husband John Joslyn. She gave a short presentation that we thought was inspiring.

Visiting Dollywood #PigeonForge #Brandcation #Dollywood

The other day I mentioned Dollywood’s Wild Eagle, but there is so much more to Dollywood than just roller coasters. Though Dollywood has several of them.

I Heart Dollywood!

I loved Dollywood and if I am honest everything I saw and experienced made me wish my family was there with me to experience it too. It was like that with every event we attended last weekend. That’s how family-friendly all of the attractions in Pigeon Forge were and to me Dollywood had an old-time feel to it – from the coal steam engine, horse wagon shop and even a metal forge/black smith’s shop for signs etc. All things that are right up my alley.

Dollywood has plenty of shops, restaurants, a museum, crafts, quilt shops, roller coasters and other rides to keep the whole family busy for the day (last Friday – can’t believe a week has gone by already!) There was plenty of things for people of all ages, including family pets. This month is Gospel and Harvest Festival and the day we were there we saw a line up of people and the majority were senior citizens. A group of bloggers took in a show and said it was awesome as they learned about the history of music.

Doggywood

Doggywood is a place to leave pets while visitors enjoy Dollywood for the day.

The great thing about Dollywood is you can stay and play as they have their own log cabins for accommodations. Dollywood even has a water park called Dolly Splash. The parks and cabins are close together eliminating long drives going back and forth between the three of them.

If we were to go to Dollywood as a family I would want to take more than just a day to visit as I think it would take at least a couple of days to go through everything.

Dollywood Ready for Fall

The park is very well shaded for the hot days of summer. Dollywood even has its own special Dollywood Christmas.

One of the employees at Dollywood said when he left work this tree was not there…we joked that the elves had been at work.

Gluten Free Brownie

The neat thing about Dollywood’s restaurants is they have a gluten-free menu and a whole program geared towards allergy education for select kitchen employees, which even includes certification. This is very unique and important to families suffering from allergies.

The rest of their eateries – a bakery, a sweet shop and more – provide tasty lots of food. I had to get a couple of photos of my husband’s favorite desserts but neglected to get a photo of our lunch at Granny Ogle’s Ham N’ Beans.

25 lb. Apple Pie for $80

Dolly Parton

It was very impressive to learn Dolly Parton is very involved with her parks and attends specially planned events centered around her visit to Pigeon Forge. The fact is we just missed her most recent visit. Boo hoo.

One last thing, we truly experienced southern hospitality and friendliness from Dollywood employees.

Dolly’s Dixie Stampede #Brandcation #PigeonForge

I have never been to a dinner show before, but that all changed a week ago when we attended Dolly’s Dixie Stampede while at Brandcation. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect but I loved it!

Denise our host from Dixie Stampede was not only helpful and friendly, but funny as well. She set us up for complimentary photos, a mug and dinner.

Dixie Stampede Pre-Show

The Dixie Stampede had a highly entertaining pre-show with a bluegrass/jazz band. The show itself was funny and the music was fantastic. Here’s a glimpse of it below since I was able to get several video clips of it….but for some reason YouTube isn’t allowing me to upload them so I can embed them into my post. :( So I’ll post some photos instead. Mountain Rukus even proved to us that they could play contemporary pop music in bluegrass style.

This is the table of ladies I sat with during the pre-show as we enjoyed a non-alcoholic beverage.

We sang to well known songs and clapped loudly as the musicians of the band, Mountain Rukus, displayed their singing talent while playing the banjo, fiddle, violin and bass.

The Dixie Stampede Floor Before the Show

Dolly’s Dixie Stampede Dinner Show

The dinner show was very good. It was different from what I expected, but not in a bad way. I don’t want to give away all the surprises so I am not sure how much to tell. The dinner was as listed on their website and video:

  • A Mouth-Watering Tender Whole Rotisserie Chicken
Delicious Hickory Smoked Barbecued Pork Loin
Dixie Stampede’s Original Creamy Vegetable Soup
    Scrumptious Homemade Biscuit
Hot Buttered Corn on the Cob
    Tasty Herb-basted Potato
    Dixie’s very own Specialty Dessert
    Unlimited Pepsi®, tea or coffee

They even offer a vegetarian plate that includes:

  • Country Garden Vegetable Pasta
Dixie Stampede’s Original Creamy Vegetable Soup
    Scrumptious Homemade Biscuit
Hot Buttered Corn on the Cob
    Tasty Herb-basted Potato
    Dixie’s very own Specialty Dessert
    Unlimited Pepsi®, tea or coffee

We were fortunate to be able to visit during the Dixie Stampede’s 25th anniversary season. The actual show was very family-friendly and interactive as the audience was divided into two teams – the Union and the Confederates. We cheered and clapped for our respective sides. People from the audience were invited to participate in the show’s events too. Children shooed chickens in a race, girlfriends and boyfriends rode stick horses as they joined the cast center stage. This will be the first time I’d ever allow my children to “boo” anybody because it was all in good old fashioned fun! See a video here.

I’ll say it again, don’t just take my word for it, experience it for yourself! You are in for a couple of surprises if you do!

A huge thank you to Dolly’s Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for welcoming us and giving us a fun-filled evening!
