Costco Fruit Box vs. FruitShare

I was looking into a Costco membership and was browsing their site and came across this gift item of 10 pieces of organic fruit for $39.99. It is from Oregon, so that is a good thing.

Compare that to FruitShare’s 24 pieces of fruit delivered to your door for $39!All from the USA too.

No comparison! You get more for a dollar less by shopping at FruitShare! Remember to shop local (as much as you can) and shop USA to support our economy!

Lose Your Bad Habits or Lose a Limb!

If you were at a cross road in your health and knew you could lose a limb due to poor circulation probably acerbated by your diabetes, would you lose your bad eating habits? I know I would no matter how much of a struggle it would be! We have a family member who recently faced this very thing. Due to stints and skilled doctors though this person kept their leg, but doesn’t appear to be ready to drastically change their eating habits. This person has had several operations in the last couple of years and undoubtedly more to come if old habits do not die fast and hard.

I find it ironic that people do not want to change. This may sound awful but I understand how people can ignore the obvious problem – their eating habits. I would much rather eat healthy than give myself a shot of insulin. I would much rather have both my legs and eat spinach than ignore fruits and veggies only to chance losing my leg. Losing a limb is life changing. More life changing than simply eating more fruits and veggies. It is a known fact that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed/controlled through diet, exercise, and with the help of alternatives. I have heard of people even stopping their insulin shots! Yet people still choose their medicines, operations and ongoing symptoms over simply changing their eating habits. I don’t get it.

It would be a dreadful thing to lose a limb. Any limb. It is a scary thought. Our family tries hard to eat healthy but I admit we struggle at times too. It concerns me for our future health. I would love to eat healthier to be honest, but like most families our budget will only allow for so much. That is the very reason we desire to grow our own food and raise our own meat birds, laying hens etc. Besides the fact that farming also provides a natural means of exercising. Just working on the farm is exercise. No need to schedule a special time for yet another activity away from home because it naturally occurs….now that is my kind of exercise!

Today’s Health and Garden Tuesday post is to simply challenge all of us (myself included!) that the choices we make today determine what our future will be like. So eat lots of fruits and veggies and cut back on those sweets (my downfall)!

The Christmas Shoppe – A Revell Blog Tour

Our family loves the Christmas season, which will be upon us in just a couple of weeks. Melody Carlson has written a timely novel, The Christmas Shoppe.

The bookworms on your gift list will enjoy this refreshing, heartwarming story with a sprinkle of romance. It is a light, easy read. Definitely a book to read to “get away from it all” if a vacation is not on the horizon.

If you believe in Christmas angels then this book is for you! Matilda is a character in The Christmas Shoppe. She is an eccentric woman with some very unselfish goals as she sowed seeds of love, healing and happiness out over the people living in the town of Parrish.

I loved the story’s message, which from my perspective seems three-fold:

1. Remember the true meaning of Christmas.
2. Don’t allow old wounds to ruin your present and future life.
3. Allow love to conquer all.

The Christmas Shoppe receives two thumbs up for me! I am even letting my daughters read this one! 🙂 Oh and I did not shed one tear…..amazing, I know!

“Available September 2011 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”

***Closed*** FruitShare Review & Giveaway!

And the winner is………comment #3…..Congrats Domestic Diva!!!

Thanks to all who entered!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last week I wrote a post (read it at this link) about a company providing fresh, organic, in season fruit saying that I was going to try them out. I placed an order over the weekend. Apparently they process orders on Monday with the expectant delivery date being Wednesday or Thursday depending. We received ours today, which is ok. I will update you if our next order is any different in the way it is processed and/or delivered.
We received our box of organic apples, pears and cranberries via FedEx from FruitShare and I have to say I am impressed by the quality and taste. Very flavorful and juicy! The children were very excited and probably would have ate the whole box had I not held them back.
Our box contained a variety of 16 apples, 6 pears (2-3 varieties) and two containers of cranberries….Thanksgiving here we come! We could easily eat the whole box in a day or two with our crew, so I am grateful for the co-op we go to on Thursdays which provides us with some fresh organic produce as well. FruitShare is a treat. They truly choose quality fruit!
In celebration of Thanksgiving coming up, for healthy living and eating we are giving away a box from FruitShare! $39 Value! This would be a great gift idea for any family on your gift list this year. And yes, they do offer gift certificates. Since we are offering this personally, we are going to choose a winner, have the winner tell us their box choice, we will place the order and have it delivered to the winner’s home. The delivery of the FruitShare box will depend upon when we receive the winner’s info.
Boys Bedding – Thrifty Thursday
When we moved and I knew were eventually going to have all four boys in one bedroom (so far the two little boys are content to stay with mommy and daddy!) I hunted down some new bedding for them since theirs was pretty worn out due to all the washing when they were younger. I thought it would be nice for them to have something nice for their new room. They were excited and found something they each liked and to their own particular taste. That was hard by the way because they would keep changing their minds. I really had to keep their vision narrowed down so we could actually get them.
For the two little boys, we went a different route when an ad came up on our homeschool yahoo group. A member in our area was selling two matching Pottery Barn quilts for $10 a piece. They are cute with sale boats on them and I thought they were perfect (without even seeing them!) I had purchased some Breyer horses from the same lady last Christmas for one of our younger daughters, so I trusted her when she said they were in great shape and they are! Take a look…
Bad Days
I hate bad days. They usually start because of one person and their attitude and it totally throws everyone in the whole house off. Today is a bad day. My attitude stinks. I will admit it. My day started ok. I got down to business and homeschooling, then a certain little person broke a new and currently my favorite mug. Material thing, an accident, I know, but still I reacted to the mishap and my attitude after that incident completely changed. Why do we sweat the little stuff? I have no idea why. I think I have grumped at nearly any child who has come near me and now all I want to do is climb into my shell and stay there. If I were a turtle that would be easy to do, but I am a mom of eight children and it is pretty much impossible to do!
I could have climbed back in bed, I know of two little people who would have climbed right in beside me because they do that every night anyways! But no, I got up and made lunch, cleaned up and came back to the computer with a silly blog post. Now I really need to apologize and get our day back on track so we can at least finish well.
The good thing about bad days is apologies and making the day better than it began! Off to strap a smile on my face, an apology on my lips and laughter in my heart as I enjoy a beautiful fall afternoon with my
“crew”.
Enjoy your day no matter how it started, even if it means an attitude adjustment by you!
By the way, the picture in this post is how I have felt most of this morning. 🙁
FruitShare – Health and Garden Tuesday
Finding organic, fresh, local and in season fruit can be hard. We had numerous people at the farmers market ask us if we offered organic fruit, which sadly we did not. Then I discovered FruitShare. A company based out of Colorado that offers all of the above, except it isn’t “truly” local, but at least it the fruit is from the USA! Plus they ship it right to your door! I am hoping to try them in the next couple of weeks and will let you know how we like it. In the meantime if you want to check out their site and what they have to offer, visit www.FruitShare.com
Transformation – Monday Motivation
I don’t know about you but I am always seeking new ways to do things whether that is in the organization of my home, my children or our businesses. Just this morning I was asking my daughter for her advice on what she finds most effective in keeping all her blogging organized and she confirmed that I needed to go with my gut and resolve the frustration in “My Documents” with our Young Living business, as that folder is getting more and more documents and it is getting harder to find things. Solution? It’s time to create new folders with in the one main folder to get the documents more organized and easier to find so I am not wasting time searching.
The above is a simple example to start with but it can go much deeper in our lives as to what needs transforming. Perhaps it is relationships for you – family or God in the spiritual realm, but it’s business for me.  Or maybe it is home organization for another. I find that now that we have moved to a larger house with more storage a lot of our organizational handicaps we experienced in our small townhouse have nearly been eliminated. (Praise God for that!) The children are older and while the younger ones are still a work in progress they now have a place for everything which takes away a lot of the frustration of keeping things in order. Most days we are able to stay on top of things and keep our home neat and tidy. It is when mom (me!) slacks off of staying on top of the children to pick up what they were using, playing with etc. that things get disorderly. And all it takes is me not feeling like making my bed and everyone follows…..better to make my bed!
Transformation in any area usually requires effort and goals on our part or else transformation will not occur.
What area do you need to transform? What goals are you ready to write down and take action with this week?
*This post was inspired in part by a webinar series I participated in last night for my Young Living business since I am still thinking about things she said and the goals I made for my business.
Mama Undercover Tank Review
I’m a nursing mama, and all of us nursing mama’s can agree that nursing in public can be HARD. Especially, when you have to keep the baby quiet, un-hook your bra, and keep covered. It’s hard work! Thankfully, Mama Undercover is helping us nursing mama’s nursing experience to be easier!
Why? Because their nursing tank is a patent-pending strapless undershirt that attaches to any nursing bra, allowing for a mother to feed her baby without exposing her body! How amazing is that?
Does it work? Yes! I love this shirt! It stays attached to any strap and opens easily. I love it! It’s so easy to use and it makes nursing SO much easier! It stays attached to any strap and opens with the flap of a nursing bra when it is time to breastfeed and allows women to wear any shirt they want and still be able to nurse comfortably.
This undershirt is made of ultra comfy cotton and spandax. And comes in several colors and is a great product that get’s two thumbs up from me! It’s a product that washes up REALLY well and won’t disappoint you! For more information please visit- www.undercovermama.com
Car Shopping
Admittedly it has been a number of years since we have gone car shopping. However, due to my getting into an accident (no one was hurt!) a week and a half ago and my husband’s work van taking a turn for the worse, we have been surfing the web for a new family car. We have also visited a couple of local car dealers and have a friend who is a car salesman also keeping his eyes peeled for us.
Due to the size of our family our choice of a car is somewhat limited unless we desired to travel in two cars, which is really not our preference. Another 15 passenger van? Or an SUV?
We are leaning towards an SUV, preferably in this century. Yeah, our old vehicles were a ’93 and a ’95. It is our hope to get into the 2000 range. Talk about getting with the program, eh?
What have we been doing for a vehicle? My husband’s mother has been in the hospital due to an operation so we have been fortunate to have the use of her car while she recovers.
How many of you have gone car shopping this year? Did you buy used or new? What was your experience? Any suggestions?
