iTunes and Apps

I couldn’t find a deal for dad that I could share quickly while writing up these sales posts, so I thought I’d include the iTunes and App store, as there is something there for everyone and it has some great gift ideas. The free stuff is the greatest though, right?

Or you could get someone you love a gift certificate so they could do their own shopping:

Belly Armor Holiday Bundle

I bought Belly Armor’s new Belly Blanket – Chic after Sir Eats Alot was born and although it is not as soft as the Belly Blanket Luxe, it isn’t as hot to have over my lap. It does have a small hole in it already, which I think came from some moth infestation we had when we brought some boxes that were in storage into the house. Very disappointing, but so far it hasn’t become any bigger. I have used it for a blanket for baby as well, especially if I happen to be laying in bed nursing and working on my laptop, as I will make sure I cover him while I work. It has a little hood on the corner like a baby towel does. I like it, but I think I like the Belly Luxe better because it does have a softer feel to it.

Now they have yet another new product on the market. Read more below…

Belly Armor Launches “Belly Band” to Shield Cell Phone and Laptop Radiation

New maternity band utilizes technology to address health concerns from everyday radiation exposure.

NEW YORK, NY, November 22, 2010 – Belly Armor by RadiaShield has recently launched the newest product in their line of maternity clothing and accessories – The Belly Band. Utilizing a silver-fiber textile, Belly Armor products shield radiation from cell phones and other electronic devices with over 99% effectiveness. To address the growing concern over the health effects from this radiation, Belly Armor has adapted this technology into a wearable maternity band.

Maternity bands have, in recent years, become an essential item for expecting mothers to both provide support and prolong the use of pre-pregnancy clothing. The Belly Armor Belly Band aims to capitalize on this trend by providing a band with the added functionality of radiation shielding.

“There are a lot of women out there who will be purchasing a maternity band already, it’s an easy decision to choose the band that will also provide protection against the health risks from everyday radiation,” says Belly Armor CEO, Aileen Chen.

The technology behind The Belly Band is called RadiaShield Fabric. It is lighter than the cotton found in a t-shirt, machine washable, and soft to the touch. The fabric utilizes an effect known as a Faraday cage, which neutralizes incoming radiation in a way similar to a grounding wire neutralizing an electric current.

Health experts advise that pregnant women limit their exposure to this type of radiation, which comes from devices like cell phones, laptops, mp3 players, tablet computers, even baby monitors. Some countries and even parts of the US have begun passing legislation to reduce this type of radiation exposure. France has banned the sale and marketing of cell phones to children and San Francisco recently passed legislation requiring the labeling of cell phone radiation levels.

Belly Armor Belly Bands come in black, white, nude and hot pink and in four sizes. You can find Belly Armor Bands online at bellyarmor.com and at maternity stores across the US and Canada.

About Belly Armor by RadiaShield

***Closed****12 Days of Christmas Giveaways – Day 5 – Frecklebox Personalized Gift

Congratulations Karen F! You won our Frecklebox giveaway! Thanks to all who entered and to the Frecklebox for sponsoring this giveaway! Winner chosen by random.org

We recently read that someone else who uses Random.org found out that if you tweet alot that will help you win. So tweet, tweet, tweet!

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to YOU – a Frecklebox.com Personalized Gift!

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

A few weeks ago I received a personalized gift from Frecklebox.com in the form of a personalized clipboard.

This personalized clipboard is actually very nice, imho (in my humble opinion). I requested that our last name be on our clipboard, not Tristan. 🙂 The clipboard is a white sturdy plastic clipboard with the personalized background covering just the front side. Over the weeks it has held up well, just a teeny bit of curling up on the bottom corners and a few pen marks from a certain two-year-old in our house. He had also taken a marker to it at one point, but thankfully it just wiped right off like a dry erase marker. Only it was not a dry erase, I believe it was a crayola or a sharpie and I used a baby wipe.

Overall, I am very pleased with the personalized clipboard and I’d consider purchasing more for our farm next spring to keep our CSA and farmers market stand more organized.

Frecklebox also carries other ideas for personalized gifts as well. They offer personalized books, personalized party favors, personalized puzzles, personalized journals, and so much more.

Be sure to check out their Black Friday sales below:

Health & Garden Tuesday: CSA Course Scholarships

A couple of weeks ago we got word that we received a $320 scholarship to a CSA Course at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in Wisconsin. A CSA, for those unfamiliar with the term is:

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a “membership” or a “subscription”) and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

Plus, we had an educational scholarship of $150 granted to us as well, making an $800 course much more affordable to say the least!

I started last week and thoroughly enjoyed the first class.

77kids Holiday Event

Faith and Family Reviews received a stipend and gift cards for participating in the following event, thanks to The Motherhood.com and 77kids by American Eagle. While we consider it a privilege to work with companies, our thoughts and opinions are our honest opinions of the event and store.

A few weeks ago we were invited to a holiday event with American Eagle’s 77kids brand. We were very excited to receive another opportunity to work with them! Yesterday was the event and we attended a VIP kick-off party at the new Chicago area 77kids store. We got a sneak peek at the magical window displays, received free treats and got a really good look at the store itself.

The 77kids staff worked around the clock for a week to get the store ready for their November 18th opening, just three days ago. The store looked great and very festive for the season. I have to admit that I loved their winter clothing selection.

We joined other area moms and their kids as we toured the store. The children were able to explore the neat dressing rooms with “windows”, play on bean bag chairs, sit in the little birdie chair that symbolizes the 77kids brand (our youngest daughter loved that it was pink and located in the little girl section!), and use the store’s camera to take some very unique looking photos, which were printed out at the register. Then we enjoyed shopping with the gift card we were provided especially for this event. Our older girls got socks, gloves, pj bottoms and a camisole, while our youngest was a bit spoiled by yours truly (well, to be honest she tends to be spoiled by all of us!) and received a dress and leggings. Our boys got new watches and at the risk of being unpopular among our readership, I didn’t buy our two little guys anything. They really didn’t need anything. As it was, I went over my alloted gift card, but the children did so well that I wanted to treat them to something they actually needed. Besides, who doesn’t like something new now and then? Last night I did a few freelance jobs to almost pay for the overage anyways. Thank God for work-at-home opportunities.

Below you will find some fantastic photos from our morning at Schaumburg’s 77kids store:

The only disappointing thing about this event was the miscommunication that occurred preventing us from enjoying breakfast at the store with the whole Chicago group. But, hey, we live in an imperfect world and things like this happen. Everything else was great, as you can see from the above photos.

Giving Back

In addition to kicking off the grand opening of their new store, 77kids is outdoing themselves on the charity front as well. They are donating to local children’s hospitals. So this is where we need your help. If you go to the 77kids holiday microsite and create a digital snowflake – it’s easy, fast and fun – and with 100,000 snowflakes, 77kids will donate $25,000 to the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago! This is a wonderful opportunity for all of you to get involved too.

Keep your eye open for our upcoming giveaway of a 77kids gift card this week!

Christmas at Harrington’s – Revell Blog Tour

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Once again, Revell surprised me. I wasn’t expecting such an endearing Christmas story from the description they sent to me. I loved this little novel, which was less than 200 pages long. It was a story of love, hope and forgiveness.

I loved the emphasis on new beginnings and second chances for the main character, Lena Markham. Her circumstances such as they were – penniless, friendless – reminded me of what some homeless or hard hit individuals must go through.

This past week my husband and oldest daughter volunteered at a food pantry passing out food for a couple of hours. The needs are great not only in the lives of the people going to the mission for food, but also for the food pantry itself. Did you know that families only receive one roll of toilet paper per week? Could your family be so frugal to only use a roll of TP in one week?

Lena Markham was a needy character who had lost her faith in people and in God. When she started her new job, as Mrs. Santa at Harrington’s department store, she met new people who loved her for who she was; she slowly regained ground in the trust department and her heart began to soften as she chose to help others and be the person she was meant to be. I wonder how many lives we could touch for good if we just chose to look beyond a person’s circumstance, appearance or even first impressions? After all, we can’t get to know a person if they are holding back their true self out of the desire to protect themselves.

Lena finds the change she’s looking for and even reveals her true character, yet would that be enough to sustain her new life? When I discovered the answer to this question, I turned the page to realize I had just finished Christmas at Harrington’s. Melody Carlson left me wanting more. I wanted to know the rest of the story – how all the different circumstances played out and what was next for Lena and the rest of the characters. I was left wanting to know if Melody is planning to write a sequel to this book! Please Melody write a sequel. 😉

Christmas at Harrington’s is an inspiring story that not only focuses on the true meaning of Christmas, which is the greatest gift of all, but also what it means to truly give a person a second chance.
