Rescue My Appliances Contest

Ok, this is truly going to be humbling. Brandfluential told us about the KitchenAid “Rescue My Appliances” contest and we are in the process of trying to tidy up our kitchen so we can take a picture of our discrepit, in need of an over-haul, been-waiting-two-years-to-be-remodeled kitchen. Our fridge is about 7 years old and is still in decent shape, but has a door shelf that is broken and useless. Our stove is only about 3 years old, but the handle is broken and the door is falling apart, the overhead fan is the original so its 17 years old and a friend just found our dishwasher on freecycle, which we will be testing tonight to see if it works since my husband just brought it home last night. We don’t have a microwave but I’d love a space saver if it would fit over our stove. There you have it and here is our kitchen…..

Drum roll please…..

We would love to have your support and ask that you vote for us to win brand new Kitchen Aid appliances in the “Rescue My Appliances” contest! I am still waiting for an “approval” link so I will update it here and send our a tweet and add it to Facebook once I have it.

Thanks!

Monday Motivation

mondaybutton

Last week’s Monday Motivation:

~ Go for 2-3 walks. Hmm…nope, nada, none.

~ Get most of our summer clothes packed up and winter clothes put away. Hmm….sort of done.

~ Work on our office. My area to declutter since it has gotten even more out of control since baby boy arrived. Hmm….barely hit the surface.

That is all I am even going to attempt to do this week since I have quite a bit of work to do for clients, plus homeschooling and a number of phone calls.

This week’s Motivation:

~ We have a field trip planned this week to a farm.

~ A friend offered her photography skills to take our family pictures so we are going to have a second field trip to the Botanical Gardens.

~ Plus we have to do everything else we need to do for work and homeschooling. So I am really just trying to organize my time better, if that is even possible when I am nursing on-demand a six week old baby!? It seems most things are done along side nursing and holding Sir Eats Alot.

A Memory Between Us – Revell Blog Tour

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

A Memory Between Us is the second book in the Wings of Glory series, which follows the three Novak brothers, B-17 bomber pilots with the US Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II.

As with the first book in the Wings of Glory series, Sarah Sundin, does a wonderful job of intertwining a love story with the historical job of B-17 pilots during the second World War. Only this time she tells the story of a war nurse as well.

Ruth Doherty is a female character with whom many women might just relate to more than they’d care to admit. Ever swear off men at some point in your life? Whether silently or outwardly? Yeah, me too, back in my college days. Well, Ruth is a woman that had plenty of reason to do so and had to learn to trust again.

Like any relationship, trust only comes when a person feels safe and loved for who they are. Ruth had to first deal with her past before she could open up and fully trust again.

I love Ruth for her desire to support her siblings and for her bravery, but I think she hid behind her responsibility.

Jack was the male lead in this book and he was gentleman, but somehow let his pride trip him up. Our pride is an ugly thing especially when it leads us to think we are better than others. In Jack’s case, his pride got in the way of his work and relationships.

You will laugh and cry in this historical romance as it reveals a journey of two people as they allow God to change their old ways to make room for the blossoming new ones.

“Available September 2010 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”

NuShield’s DayVue Screen Protector Film

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

We mentioned NuShield’s screen protector in our Back to School Product Review .

NuShield’s DayVue screen protector film was created to reduce the amount of glare users experience on their LCD displays. It is suppose to enhance daylight readability.

The DayVu is custom made and pre-cut to the size of your screen, so it is easy to install. It is thin, anti-reflective and filters out UBV light.

I found that the DayVu does reduce the glare on my laptop screen and while it does not pick up fingerprints easily my DayVu has scratched within the first days of use, so that was disappointing.

Another thing is the cut of the DayVu is a fraction off so if I have the overhead fan on in the room I am in it blows the screen out of place as there is no adhesive required to insert the DayVu. However, this may be partly my fault because I said my laptop is a 17″ screen when in actuality it may be 17.1″ or 17.2″. So if you decide to order one be sure to use exact measurements.

The great thing about this screen protector is that it can be used on most LCD displays (inside and outside use), not just on your computer.

The DayVu may be purchased at www.nushield.com

Blog for Breasts Day – Kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I received an email inviting me to participate in Blog for Breasts Day to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and thought it was a worthy cause to support and take part in. I had one or two great aunts die due to having breast cancer and would love to do something to help other women in my family and otherwise be saved from ever getting breast cancer.

We cannot cure something if we do not know what we are curing. That is why the Army of Women hopes to STOP CANCER BEFORE IT STARTS. By enlisting ONE MILLION WOMEN to participate in breast cancer research, we will be able to finally take the research out of the lab and look at real women. This will enable us to finally find the causes of breast cancer and ultimately figure out how to prevent it all together. Billions of dollars have been spent on breast cancer research to date, but we still don’t know what causes it. While many advances in treatment have been made, our goal is to eradicate it once and for all, by preventing it in the first place. We discovered that cervical cancer was caused by a virus, the HUMAN papillomavirus . The way we discovered the cause of cervical cancer was by studying WOMEN. With a lot less money, and in a lot less time, we now have a cure because we now know WHAT to cure. We need to follow the same path and move breast cancer beyond a cure.

The Love/Avon Army of Women (AOW) is a unique program of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit breast cancer research organization. The program is funded through a grant from the Avon Foundation for Women. The AOW provides an opportunity for men and women to take part in breast cancer research studies aimed at determining the causes of breast cancer–and how to prevent it. The AOW is a groundbreaking initiative that connects breast cancer researchers via the internet with women who are willing to participate in a wide variety of research studies. The goal of the Army of Women is to recruit ONE MILLION men and women of all ages and ethnicities, including breast cancer survivors and those who have never had breast cancer.

If you choose to sign up at AOW you will be added to their database to hear about research projects—signing up for the AOW does not sign you up a study yet. These research studies are prevention based, not clinical trials and they desire all enthnicities, all ages 18 and older, healthy women, women with cancer and women who are survivors.

There is absolutely no cost to join to take part in something this important. They are not asking for donations, although I am sure if you are inclined they would be very grateful. They just want women to sign up and agree to hear about studies. Participation in any study is always, completely voluntary. We get to choose which studies we participate in. Type of commitment: Studies will require a variety of different things (we may be asked anything from filling out an online questionnaire to being asked for a blood sample). It all varies according to study.

So if you are interested in getting involved sign up at AOW and be sure to recruit friends and family by urging them to use the “invite a friend” link: https://www.armyofwomen.org/invitefriend

Review of Diamond Earrings

Want to receive a free pair of diamond earrings? Are they real diamonds?

No, sorry – as much as the company would like to give away real diamonds for free, they don’t think their accountant would go for it.
How can they give away earrings for free? What’s the catch?

Instead of spending thousands on advertising promoting, they are actually compensating YOU to get the word out. What do you have to do to get a free pair of earrings?

Simply mention DiamondEarrings.org anywhere on the web. Whether it’s on your twitter, facebook or myspace page, blog, youtube, etc. They are not picky, anywhere will do. How many pairs of earrings do they have to give away?

This is a limited time offer and may expire at any time. Is this a scam?

No, just a unique way of getting the word out about our new online jewelry company. What’s the catch?

No catch, just mention them anywhere on the web and pay $3.77 and you’ll receive a set of beautiful simulated-diamond earrings, set in sterling silver and delivered in a heart shaped box.

Questions???

How long will it take to receive my earrings?

Please allow up to 10 business days to receive your free set of earrings. C

Can I order more than one set of earrings?

Sorry, we have a limit of one order per household.

Are there any hidden or recurring charges?

No, there is only a one time payment of $3.77 for postage and handling. There are no hidden charges, further payments or “monthly membership” fees. Just a one time payment.

Do you have other diamond earrings to sell?

Right now they are simply doing the giveaway. Eventually they will be selling earrings and diamond earrings on the site, but for now we want to concentrate on giving out these earrings.

Our Review

These are not high quality earrings by any means, they are a promotional tool. However, they sparkle like diamonds and come beautifully packaged.

I like the looks of them and the packaging, but….

I found the posts of the earrings short compared to some of my other earrings. Although I didn’t have a problem putting the backs on or wearing them. That’s a plus.

The negative thing, which I always hate to have anything negative to say, but the earrings made my ears sore after lengthy wear. I learned years ago as a teen, who had a very special and generous aunt, that my ear holes did much better with real gold for some reason. The studs I got my ears pierced with were not gold though. They were those huge silver bullet shaped studs they used back when I was a young’un 😉
