Review of Goody Hair Products

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

What girl doesn’t enjoy getting new hair things? New anything for that matter, right? It was fun to receive Goody’s new ColourCollection for Girls. New hair products always seem to be a much needed/desired item in our home, especially with five females! Goody’s new girl’s line included 6 barrettes for light hair so they were neutral in color, in blonde and pinks, 10 non metal covered pony tail holders in browns and pink for darker hair and finally, three neutral colored little girl hair bands for light colored hair.

I have thick hair and the pony tail holders are large enough to wind around my hair 2 times comfortably, 3 times would be stretching it too far, I think. I have been using the same pony tail holder, almost every day, for nearly two months and it is finally getting thin where the two ends meet. It has held up very nicely, but they do get stretched out with every day use, which is quite normal for pony tail holders. They do not have any metal in them to attach the ends, which I like.

Our two our younger girls do not have as thick of hair as the rest of us so they have enjoyed using the barrettes and hairbands. The barrettes are a little over two inches long and are metal with plastic over the top. My 10-year-old thought that they were comfortable and likes to wear them. The hairbands are plastic but have little comb points to help keep it in place. My 10-year-old thought these were a bit uncomfortable and hurt, but she does have a more sensitive head than most. Our four-year-old didn’t have too much to say, but she wore them with pleasure so that says it all, right?! It’s hard for her not to play with the hair things in her hair though!

Gardening Tuesday!

Those greenhouses we got last week are being put to good use. We already have lettuce, cucumbers, peas and more popping through. It was amazing when some green poked through the soil on day 2!

Summer 2010 185

We have been keeping on top of the weeds in our vegetable garden through the use of straw. The farmer we have rented our growing field from (for free in exchange for organically grown produce) had hay her horses wouldn’t eat so she offered it to us to use as mulch. We are very thankful. It may be itchy and dirty to put down, but how it helps keep the weeds at bay.

Summer 2010 044

The funny thing about our garden is that we got many more tomato plants because of the chicken manure/compost we used. Where lettuce should have grown, we now have those extra tomato plants! We have to get more recent photos. I will check to see what we have on file though.

I have about three book reviews to post on Gardening Tuesday, but have yet to get them written, as I still have to read two of the books. The other is read, but I have to rewrite my review and it keeps being put off to the side for other things.

KickinBerries

gardentuesdaysbuttonforffr[1]

I three sample packages of KickinBerries Acai Antioxidant Stick packs in a giveaway that I entered a while ago. This review has just been sitting in my brain and in my drafts folder. Literally, I had a post titled and everything, just not written up!

kickinberry_acai_antioxidant_stick_packs

We all have heard how good antioxidants are for us. We also know that most of us consume way too much sugar and that sweet drinks are a big culprit. And, most of us would like to do something to kick this unhealthy habit. If you are seriously looking for replacement drinks, besides all natural fruit juices. You might want to consider KickinBerries.

Here is what the company has to say about their product:

The berries in our product are the berries that have the most antioxidants that help our body repair itself naturally.

KickinBerries, Great taste, low sugar, high antioxidant berry mix.

Read the nutritional value.

I actually only used a half a package for an 8 oz glass of water. It’s quite potent stuff. It really seems to have a pucker factor because of the sourness. It tasted fine with only a half a pack. I liked it. I didn’t receive enough to tell if it helped or made a difference. Nor have I managed to buy some. Just like the Belly bars.

This was something different to do a mini product review on in case anyone was looking for something like this for themselves.

Monday Motivation at Faith and Family Reviews

mondaybutton

Ok, last week’s list looked like this:

~ To make it through the week! Seriously, I have been feeling awful, baby has been pressing up on my diaphram and it is very uncomfortable to move these days.
~ Work on client projects. Starting with a new client this week and have a training session tomorrow afternoon.
~ Work in our garden as weather permits. I am sure we have summer squash in need of picking since I forgot to remind Robert and the boys to pick when they went out to the field!
~ Come up with name for baby! Ongoing until we agree on a name.
~ Work on getting my iron up more. This will be ongoing until even after the baby is born.

This week’s list looks pretty much the same:

~ Last week’s pregnancy issue has exacerbated into heartburn so I am working on that this week.
~ Monday and Tuesday I have a lot of client work to do in preparation for days out on Wednesday and Thursday. That’s why I worked on writing some product reviews over the weekend so I wouldn’t have to worry about them this week.
~ 77Kids.com/TheMotherhood.com Event in Chicago on Wednesday.
~ Garden – we now have green and yellow beans to pick, in addition to onions, lettuce, squash, peas, kale and Swiss chard.
~ Name “Angel” in my womb.
~ Iron

Ok, so I have one more item on my list this week, but hey 77Kids.com /TheMotherhood.com won’t be on my list next week!

77 Top Mom Bloggers in 11 Cities To Host the First-Ever “Do Good Day”

77 Top Mom Bloggers in 11 Cities
To Host the First-Ever “Do Good Day”

Happening on July 14th, 2010

200x200_DoGoodDay

[Pittsburgh and Larchmont, NY] – July 12, 2010 – In eleven cities on July 14, 2010, a total of seventy-seven of the country’s top mom bloggers and their kids will carry out random acts of goodness and kindness on the first-ever “Do Good Day”.

Through a partnership with TheMotherhood and 77kids by american eagle®, Do Good Day will take place in: Boston; Cherry Hill, NJ; Chicago; Danbury; Los Angeles; New York City; Minneapolis/St. Paul; Syracuse; and Washington, DC.

“Mom bloggers and their children have created original, fun, moving ways to do good in their local communities and we are awed by the potential of so many trusted, powerful online voices doing good together, all on the same day,” said Cooper Munroe, co-founder of TheMotherhood.com

Concurrently, on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, teams of mom bloggers in each city will do good in ‘pay it forward’ kinds of activities, including:

• In Chicago, the Do Good Day team will visit Ronald McDonald Houses to prepare meals for the families and provide activities.

• In New Jersey, the mom bloggers will set up a “thank you station”, giving people an opportunity to take a few moments to fill out a post card and thank a soldier and/or veteran. They will incorporate fun activities for kids, like face painting, tattoos, etc.

• The L.A. team is heading to Seaside Lagoon, a family beach in Redondo Beach, CA, to pay it forward by making get well cards for the children at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. For every get well card made, kids will receive a 77Kids list of good deeds that can be completed for $1 along with a crisp one dollar bill to pay the good deed forward. Cold Stone Creamery and Ruby’s Diner have partnered with the 7 member L.A. blogger team to reward children participating with ice cream and kid’s meals.

• Team Philadelphia will be “Brightening Someone’s Day” at a retirement community to hand out flowers and other goodies to the residents and deliver special crafts that represent what a parent/grandparent means to the mom bloggers and their kids.

• In Pittsburgh, the Do Good Day team will assemble backpacks filled with school supplies and a “mini mission” (a thank you card and stamp, with instructions to write and send thank you note to someone deserving; paper, crayons and a pre-addressed envelope, with instructions to draw a picture and send it to a resident of an assisted care home, etc.).

Do Good Day is timed to the grand opening of 77kids stores in five cities: Pittsburgh; Cherry Hill, NJ; Danbury, CT; Syracuse; and the Mall of America.

Book Review: Feeding Penny the Pig

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Feeding Penny Pig

Money management is an important aspect in life. It takes time to develop the discipline of being good with money. Rare is the individual who is a natural when it comes to money, especially in this over-commercialized world in which we live. As parents, it is a part of our responsibility to teach our children to manage money. How many of you learned money management in school? I know I didn’t, at least until I got to my third year in Bible school/college. They had a course based on Ron Blue’s book, Master Your Money. Well, here is a child’s book to get you started in teaching young children about money and how to be responsible with it and their chores – Feeding Penny the Pig

Feeding Penny the Pig is a whimsical children’s story. Our younger ones enjoyed it, as it is geared towards 4-8 year olds. We all thought it was a cute story to help teach small children about money, as well as chores and work. There definitely aren’t many books on the market that teach children about money management.

The author of Feeding Penny the Pig is Jeannine Fox, who is a Certified Public Accountant and a grandmother who is concerned with the future of her grandkids. She says, “Our country is paying the price now for overspending, credit abuse and other irresponsible money management. If we teach kids at a young age to save money, we can prevent these problems from happening again.”

This book is available at major bookstores and costs around $14.95. For more information about Mrs. Fox, please visit www.mimisfunhouse.com

Napping Dog Story

A friend passed this on to me and I thought it was cute. I don’t know if this is true but it’s a good story…

Sleeping Dog

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard..

I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head;

He then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks.

Curious I pinned a note to his collar: ‘I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.’

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: ‘He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 – he’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?’

Thrifty Thursday – Money Saving Tip – Buying Used

Better late than never, right? In light of what I shared on Tuesday about the two greenhouses, I thought that I would just share one money saving tip that can save a huge amount of money – buying used.

thriftythursdaysbutton

Craigslist (be very careful though, we have had some bad experiences, but we’ve also had some good ones too.)

Recently, we have been blessed to have found a freezer, a refrigerator, a nearly new dishwasher, the greenhouses and a canopy tent. We keep our eyes open to many other things as well, especially farm related. I like to see how different people price things and get a feel for what we’d like to pay for things. It pays to research. I know when I don’t, I regret it.

By purchasing used items, you can cut your cost by half or even 75% which is a significant savings. I like new looking things as much as anybody, but with a bit of elbow grease most things can come clean relatively easily.
