Dixie Stampede

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

My two children were on Spring Break last week and we took a little road trip out to Branson, Missouri to see the sights.  We had the absolute pleasure of attending Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede dinner extraction.  It was quite an experience, one that will never be forgotten.

Image-1

Dixie Stampede is an unbelievable dinner show which includes horses, buffalo, dogs, and more.  It is a friendly rivalry between the North and the South with history, trick riding, special effects, and LOTS of fun!  Not to mention the full plate of food that is absolutely mouth watering delicious.

We arrived around 3:30 and picked up our tickets which we had already reserved.  This is a must see attraction that usually sells out, so I would definitely plan ahead and buy your tickets ahead of time.  We were instructed to come back no later than 4:15 for the preshow.  In the meantime we walked around the stables to see more than thirty beautiful horses.

Image-2

The kids loved reading each horse’s name, their favorite was “Star.”

Image-3

We entered at 4:15 and stood in line for a few minutes.  A professional photographer took a picture of our family, which was then imposed upon different backdrops and then we were able to purchase them.  The prices were very reasonable and the pictures were beautiful.  We then entered the Carriage Room for the Opening Act.

IMG_7425

We could sit either at the main level or go upstairs.  The kids of course wanted to go up.  The bar was open to purchase drinks and snacks including popcorn.  The Opening Act changes, but for us was a trio of brothers who sang amazing Bluegrass music.

IMG_7429 IMG_7427

They really got the crowd involved and we truly enjoyed the 50 minute show.  The dinner bell then rang and we walked into the next room.

IMG_7434

My family was in awe when we entered the 35,000 square foot arena.  There was a real waterfall and pond, as well as seats all around.  I honestly don’t thing there was a bad seat in the house.  We found our assigned seats, which happened to be on the South side and were immediately asked what we would like to drink.

IMG_7437

All drinks and food were included in the ticket price.  Children 3 and under were free if they sat on an adult’s lap.  The show began minutes later, and we were absolutely blown away.

IMG_7435

Thirty-two horses came galloping out in the arena and were introduced as either being on the North or the South side.  We cheered for the South since that was where our seats were.  The show lasted over an hour.

IMG_7444

In the beginning they gave some history about what life was like back then with real covered wagons, buffalo, and “belles of the ball” singing.

IMG_7465

The second half of the show was dedicated to competition between the North and the South.  This included trick riding, pig races, dog races, lumberjack competitions, and help from the audience.  The finale was phenomenal.  It was all about being patriotic and the love for our country.  My 3 year old and 7 year old could not keep their eyes off of the show.  For me, it flew by.  It is definitely a must see show.

While the show was going on, you are served a 4-course dinner that does not include any silverware.  It begins with a delicious bowl of soup that you must drink since you have no spoon.  Then you are served a whole rotisserie chicken, hickory smoked barbecued pork loin, corn on the cob, a biscuit, and a potato.

IMG_7462

It was so much food I could barely finish half.  They do offer to go containers for anything you do not finish.  Dessert was an apple turnover that was to die for.  The food was absolutely delicious.

I cannot say enough great things about the Dixie Stampede.  Not only was the show jaw-dropping spectacular, but the food was incredible, and the service was great.  Both of my kids have asked every single day if we can go back to the Dixie Stampede, they had so much fun.  We will definitely go back.  It is well worth it!

Abask Dust Buster

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

I absolutely love the Abask handheld vacuum. VERY easy to assemble, and lasts for over 10 minutes without recharging. It comes with different attachments to get in crevices, go on carpeting, use on tile, etc.

I was pleasantly surprised it came with enough attachments so I could stand and vacuum. Most handheld cordless vacuums do not have this option. I was able to vacuum three tile bathroom floors, my large tile laundry room, and my carpeted steps and it did not even start to slow down. It comes with a bag to hold all of the attachments, which I love, and a hook so I can hang it. It’s easy to clean, easy to use, and best of all it has great suction. I HIGHLY recommend this handheld vacuum. I had a few questions for the company, and they were very quick to respond as well. Great customer service.

About the book:

Squirrel is running along a tree limb when she trips, losing all her acorns into the rushing water of the river below. Angry and frustrated, she doesn’t know what to do. Her good friend, Rabbit, lends both a sympathetic ear as well as a solution. Rather than get angry, Rabbit tells her, rate the problem on a scale of one-to-ten. By identifying and realizing the true importance of the issue, the issue may not seem so overwhelming. Adorable forest creatures help the sad squirrel put everything into perspective so he does not to get stuck in a rut over something that may not be a big deal after all.

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED IN … : A Child’s Introduction to Cultures Around the World, is the latest exciting new children’s series of children’s books from Carole P. Roman. Roman takes young readers all over the globe to explore different countries and cultures. With each book covering a different nation, Roman opens up a world of wonder while highlighting the fact that underneath it all we are far more alike than we might have imagined. Focusing on what life would be like for children if they were to live in another city or country, she examines the diversity around the world and the value possessed by each different culture. Think of the series as a children’s version of the travel Channel that is filled with entertaining and educational facts.

We reviewed one more exciting book in Carole P. Roman’s series.

IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED IN …I SRAEL

In short we are in love with this series! What a wonderful way to introduce young children to cultural diversity. The text of the books are simple yet powerful. We liked that the book was written for children … I did not have to summarize or paraphrase information because the text was outside of their knowledge grasp…what a plus! The vibrant illustrations were also a plus. My children not only loved listening and learning but took the book after we were done reading just to look at the pictures.

Wow! What an excellent read! This is such a lovely book and we look forward to the next installment of the series!

Book Review: Under an Open Heaven

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9780825444081

About the Book:

When the gospel of John was written, the world was in turmoil. Jerusalem was collapsing, the empire was eroding, and the church was fighting for its life. The early believers needed a theology to strengthen their souls and steady their nerves–a theology found in this often enigmatic gospel. In our similar times of turbulence, we too need to know that the abundant life under the opened heaven John describes is not just conceivable–it’s a promise.
John E. Johnson is determined to reveal the relevance of John’s gospel to today’s Christian. To do so, he explores various conversations found in its pages and applies them to our modern world. Jesus converses with family, answers the questions of religious leaders, and steps into dialogue with people whose names we never know but whose struggles we can relate to. They aren’t always straightforward chats, Johnson readily admits. Yet that is what makes them so beautifully applicable to the messiness of life.
For readers tired of living confined lives, frustrated by failure, or starving in the midst of plenty, the conversations in John tell them life doesn’t have to stay small. There is a whole new world made possible under God’s open heaven.

2017 Mazda CX-9

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

I have officially found my new dream car…the 2017 Mazda CX-9.  This was the most luxurious vehicle I have ever had the pleasure of driving.  Not only is it gorgeous on the outside, but it is sleek as ever on the inside.

IMG_7185

The Mazda CX-9 is by far the fastest car I have ever driven.  It has a 2.5T turbo engine.  Most of the time I was driving I did not even realize how fast I was going, since the drive was so smooth.  I rarely felt a bump, which is odd since I live in the country.  The neatest part was that it projected the speed limit onto the windshield so I didn’t even have to look down to see how fast I was going.  This vehicle had every single bell and whistle you could dream of.  Some of my favorites included keyless entry, leather throughout, 7-inch full-color touchscreen display, Mazda connect, and great safety features.

IMG_7189

I felt like the Mazda CX-9 could basically drive itself.  If I was too close to a car in front of me, it would brake on its own.  If I veered a little too far to the shoulder, it would turn me back.  I felt very safe driving this vehicle.  It was super easy to park, with the rearview camera.  I loved all of the controls on the inside.  They were very user friendly and easy to control while driving.

IMG_7187

I would recommend the 2017 Mazda CX-9 to every single person and family.  I felt like I was on vacation after driving this for a week.  It was the most comfortable, smoothest, and fun vehicle to drive.

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

If you are looking for a great run around town vehicle, look no further than the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage.  It is a great car for a small family that likes to travel.  It gets 36 miles to the gallon on average, which means you’ll be saving money at the gas station!

IMG_7148

It is surprisingly very spacious on the inside.  Plenty of elbow room, and enough space in the trunk for groceries, sports equipment, or suitcases.  It was comfortable to drive, and easy to see.  All of the controls were easy to locate and use while drving.  The Mirage is a 3-cylinder front wheel drive vehicle, and this particular car was a 5-speed manual transmission.

IMG_7150

What a I really loved about the car was the warranty.  It had a 10-year 100,000-mile warranty, and the Mirage starts at $14,795.00.  It also rated highly in the Government 5-Star Safety Ratings.

IMG_7149

I would definitely recommend the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage to a small family or a young person beginning to drive.  It’s a great car to drive, that’s extremely fuel efficient, and easy on the wallet.

Book Review ~ Control Girl: Lessons on Surrendering Your Burden of Control from Seven Women in the Bible

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9780825444296

About the book:

“I control because I care.”
“I just want to be sure of a happy ending.”
“I worry that everything is spinning out of control.”
Many women can identify with statements like these. They have a compulsion to make everything turn out just right and are willing to do anything to make it happen. But this unbalanced pursuit of control makes those around them anxious and defensive. And when they realize control is slipping from their grasp, they lose control of themselves and react in anger or fear.
Shannon Popkin knows this struggle inside and out. Keeping her inner Control Girl hidden is a full-time job. Thankfully, she also knows another very important truth: no woman has to be a Control Girl.
In this encouraging book, Shannon invites seven Control Girls from the Bible into the conversation. She examines each story for the moments in which grasping for control circumvented God’s plans for good, whether it was Eve’s desire to know instead of to trust, Sarah’s inability to wait for God to move, or Rebekah’s controlling hand on her family’s future. Finally, Shannon finds God’s perspective on each of the problems and then reveals how readers’ can have their own happy endings in similar situations.
The author shares from her own struggles and follows each Bible study with questions for personal reflection. In the end, controlling women will find insight into their own experience, peace in the knowledge that God is in control, and relief that they are free.

Our Review:

Another excellent selection from Kregel Publications! This text is oacked with wisdom and peace. We really liked that the author shared their personal experience along with linking to women of the Bible. Linking to the Bible and personal issues gave the text a relevant feel. This is a book not to be missed! Wonderful for reflection and study.

Book Review: Deep Water

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9781782642145

About the book:

An obesity treatment has been discovered, but before anyone can benefit, a dispute breaks out about who owns the discovery. David Marchmont, a patent lawyer, is asked to handle the case. There’s one big problem, though: crucial evidence is missing–evidence that might have a bearing on the clinical trial two years before.

David’s personal life has its own challenges. His daughter, Chloe, has a rare and serious genetic condition. His wife, Rachel, becomes friendly with a young researcher, Kate Flanagan, who is seeking a cure for Chloe’s disorder; Kate, in turn, becomes concerned that her lab colleagues may be cutting corners on the obesity drug.

As evidence of mishandling mounts–then disappears–Kate, Rachel, and David find themselves caught up in acute ethical challenges and personal danger. Is biotechnology outstripping our capacity to make ethical decisions?

Our Review:

This was really a great book! We loved the anticipatory feeling throughout the book. It is also very timely with all of the scientific breakthroughs that are happening in todays world. if you are looking for a great thrilling book this is the one to pick up!
