We loved that the facial moisturizer was SPF 30 and was water resistant! This moisturizer rubbed easily into the skin and felt nice. During the time I tried this facial moisturizer I did not experience break outs…sometimes moisturizers with an added sunscreen can cause my skin to break out. This one did not!   The product is organic… which is so nice to hear in such a chemical laden market!

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9780857216342

About the Book:

A revolution is sweeping through our churches to recalibrate our thinking around the central proposition that God is love. Generous, prodigal love that seeks the best for every human being on the planet. How do we engage in evangelistic mission in light of this emphasis?

This book is a guide to God’s mission in the world, with an emphasis on equipping individual Christians to share their faith and bless those they love and live with.

The Seven Stories That Shape Your Life follows the four categories of beautiful, broken, forgiven, and invited, applying each to the central challenge of communicating the good news.

Book Review: The Kill Fee

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9781782642183

Poppy Denby, arts and entertainment editor at the Daily Globe, covers an exhibition of Russian art, hosted by White Russian refugees, including members of the surviving exiled Romanov royal family. There is an armed robbery, a guard is shot, and the largest Fabergé egg in the collection is stolen. While the egg itself is valuable, the secrets it contains within are priceless–secrets that could threaten major political powers.

Suspects are aplenty, including the former keeper of the Fabergé egg, a Russian princess named Selena Romanova Yusopova. The interim Bolshevik Russian ambassador, Vasili Safin, inserts himself into the investigation, as he believes the egg–and the other treasures–should all be restored to the Russian people.

Poppy, her editor, Rollo, press photographer Daniel, and the other staff of the Globe are delighted to be once again in the middle of a sensational story. But soon the investigation takes a dark turn when another body is found and an employee of the newspaper becomes a suspect. The race is on to find both the key and the egg–can they be found before the killer strikes again?

Fiona Veitch Smith offers up another rollicking mystery set in 1920s London, when women’s emancipation, the Jazz Age, the consequences of the First World War, and the aftermath of the Bolshevik revolution were rearranging the cultural landscape.

Book Review: Taking my God for a Walk

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9780857217738

About the book:

With retirement looming, Tony Collins chose to use a long-overdue sabbatical to walk the 490 miles of the Camino, from the French border to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. He was deliberately stepping out of his comfort zone: making a pilgrimage, carrying his pack, through a land whose language he did not speak, into a religious culture far removed from his own, in search of sources of reverence. However he would not walk alone; the Way of St. James has many adherents, with well over 200,000 completing their Camino journey during that year.

He had expected the Way to be arduous, and so it proved. But he had not expected so bracing an internal journey, his battered soul laid open to examination and past errors offered up for scrutiny. Nor had he expected such moments of intense spiritual encounter, or so many precious friendships.

In the end he discovered, as so many have before him, that the Way leaves an indelible mark.

“Tony Collins’s new book is an absolute delight. We take not one walk with him, but two, and both are a genuine pleasure. Here is a man who stands at the verge of retirement, who looks back and forward, and does so with both reverence and great good humor. There was so much quiet passion contained within these pages, and so many powerful lessons. Highly recommended.”
–Davis Bunn, author of The Lion of Babylon

Book Review : Death in the Shadows

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9781782641223

About the book:

When Father Gilbert traded in his detective’s badge for an Anglican priest’s collar, he never expected he would be pulled into a different kind of mystery–the mystery of the spiritual world.

Attending a conference in a seaside town, he has yet another supernatural encounter, this time with a murdered girl who worked at a local massage parlor. Details of the murder lead Father Gilbert to approach the police with clues in common with other cases, bringing him into contact with a detective from his days with Scotland Yard.

Meanwhile, a local monastery has been vandalized, with grotesque images and profane graffiti defacing the altar and walls. The head of the monastery accuses the local sex-trade industry of retaliating against his outspoken stand against it. Then, one of the brothers at the monastery is found dead in the local red-light district. All evidence points to his having been a regular at a massage parlor–the same one where the murdered girl had worked.

unnamed-1

About the book:

What if there was a way to plug in and recharge your soul, not just your smartphone? What if a simple day away could transform your life? Getaway with God invites readers to step away from the incessant pressure of deadlines and demands to spend time with God. More to the point, it walks women through each step of designing their own retreat–whatever kind is needed.

Our Review:

In a world that is so fast paced this book is a great way to recharge and unplug. This book speaks to coth Christians an non Christans as a way to renew and rejuvinate ourselves.

I liked how the author wove scripture into the book. The text makes God alive within us and speaks to us if we listen! Put down the smartphone and reconnect!

Book Review: When There Is No MIracle

ffr-image-for-posts-300x90

9780825444258

About the book:

Times of profound darkness don’t always require miracles to find the light
Sooner or later, dark days obscure everyone’s lives. Heartbreak is impartial. Tragedies, global or personal, strike every day, and people discover they have been swept out to sea by waves of destruction, anxiety, and catastrophe. How can Christians who believe in divine intervention understand the times when the lights go out and no miracle of deliverance appears?
Robert Wise has more than a passing relationship with tragedy. He has not only lost loved ones; he has been on the front lines of the mayhem that seems to increase every year. Wise was the first clergyman on the scene following the Murrah Building bombing in Oklahoma City. He ministered to frightened people after 9/11. He has encountered countless people experiencing tragedy, all of them asking the same question: Why do the innocent suffer?
When There Is No Miracle imparts the lessons Wise has learned in the midst of his own questioning. Each chapter encourages those who struggle, and demonstrates unexpected positive benefits of pain and suffering. Wise shares the experiences of those he has met in his ministry who faced times that seemed to be devoid of God’s involvement. Yet, as Wise shows here, God is always behind the scenes, working for the ultimate good, even when we can’t understand how. In this succinct volume, Christians can find new hope, learn to reconcile their faith with times of emptiness, and discover a new depth of meaning in the crucifixion of Christ.

Book Review ~ Refresh

FFR image for posts

4403 comp9.indd

About the Book:

More than one-fifth of US households with children have at least one child with special needs. Raising a child with special needs is spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically challenging. Parents of these children need encouragement to restore hope and a passion for God in their lives—but the realities of having to be parent, nurse, therapist, and caregiver make it difficult to find the time or initiative to seek encouragement.
Packed with encouragement from parents who understand this complicated balancing act, Refresh is designed to provide just what these parents need. The devotional guides parents to spiritual truths that can be applied to the demands they face every day. It offers perspective and hope through the varying stages and phases families experience, from diagnosis to loss and grief.
Each day’s devotional includes a reading from Scripture, as well as stories and testimonies from parents who intimately know the struggle readers face. Their children represent a wide range of special needs, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, genetic disorders, chronic illness, and more. Drew and Green show how the truths of God’s Word are relevant, regardless of the diagnosis. Their devotional illuminates the unique lessons and perspectives to be gained as a result of raising a child with special needs.
Insightful and powerful, Refresh will help weary parents grow spiritual roots and turn toward the Light that never fades.
