Read and Share Children’s Bible

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

The Read and Share Children’s Bible has over 200 Bible stories. At the end of each story there are questions to prompt discussion between parent and child. For the most part the stories remain true to the Biblical version (adapted from the International Children’s Bible). Our older children were the first to point out that Rebekah wore a veil when she first met Isaac, and it was sadly missing in this Bible book. There were only a couple of little discrepancies, things that older children and adults would notice.

This little Bible is a good size and fits well in a child’s lap, which we like. The illustrations are bright, but more on the cartoonish side, which we do not mind and have other books with cartoon characters. It was one of our older children, again, who made a comment about the noses of the people. It’s just that our favorite children’s Bible, which is falling apart, missing pages and no longer in print :-(, had more natural, true to life illustrations, so I think we are use to that in a Bible book. However, this Bible book does a very good job of portraying the meaning and message of our favorite Bible stories and keeps our children’s attention. When we are reading it to them they always request we read more, if we stop at only a couple of stories; one of the best things to hear while reading to little ones.

This book retails for $12.00-$17.00 and is published by Tommy Nelson.

Health & Garden Tuesday: 12 Essentials to Great Health

This past weekend was the last essential oils class, which was on Healing Oils of the Bible – 12 Essentials to Great Health. The class was extremely interesting and so much information to absorb! I should have been posting about each class as we had them, but didn’t think of that until now. I loved learning more about these oils that I have heard about all my life as I listened to the scriptures being taught or read about them in the Bible myself.

Each of these oils were made by God. He made the plants that contained these oils on the third day of creation. They are there for our benefit, enjoyment and use. God is the creator of healing properties in the essential oils and Jesus is the Great Physician.

The twelve healing oils of the Bible are:

Sandalwood
Cassia
Cedarwood
Cypress
Galbanum
Frankincense
Hyssop
Myrrh
Myrtle
Onycha
Cistus
Spikenard

I wish I had more time to post specific information on each oil, but hope to do so in the future. As you can see from my intro, I started this post a few weeks ago and am just posting it now since the essential oils classes have been over for a while now.

I also bought the book on these 12 essential oils in hopes understanding more about them. I believe far too much knowledge has not been passed down through the generations so we have lost the knowledge people had during the time of Moses or Jesus about the healing properties of plants etc. It will be fascinating to learn these things so our children can then pass it on to their own children and so on.

Here’s to the 12 Essentials to Great Health!

Revolve 2010

I received a free copy of the following book from Book Sneeze in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the book.

Revolve

I didn’t realize that Resolve was a Bible until it arrived. I thought it was a magazine for young people, but it is the New Testament with a magazine look and design. It certainly brings our present cultural issues to the forefront and will appeal to the younger audience, although it almost seems sacrilegious. I think I understand the concept – the desire to make the Bible more relevant to the younger generation, but I cannot agree with this approach.

I cannot get excited about a New Testament that contains fashion, makeup and dating advice or that is sprinkled with celebrity news, interviews and mission and Bible tips. It saddens me, to be honest. It saddens me that I have to write a negative review and it saddens me that we, as Christians, think that we need to be like the world to reach out to the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Perhaps it is my age, but my oldest daughter liked what she saw, even though she admitted it was kind of weird. She likened it to the Seventeen magazine, except Revolve has the Bible in it. She hasn’t even read Seventeen, she’s only seen it in stores.

I can see young people just reading the newsy clips and sidebars and completely overlooking the New Testament. Although it may contain relevant content, we, as Christians are called to be different from the rest of the world around us. We are called to be in the world, but not of it. To me, Revolve is just another attempt to be like the world, but it’s seasoned with biblical content. It may be a hit with some, but not with me. Just make a teen magazine, no need to call it a New Testament Bible.

Revolve retails for $16.99, but Christian Book Distributors (CBD) has it for $11.99.
